History of the Motorland Aragon, Alcaniz

The Motorland Aragon is steeped in rich history, rooted in the motor racing passion of its hometown, Alcaniz. Its origins trace back all the years to 1965, when the Guadalupe Urban Racetrack, a street track hosted a race in Alcaniz. Soon the urban circuit became quite famous, helping Alcaniz establish itself as a motor racing hub. Urban racing however was laced with safety concerns, and so the idea of making a designated motorsports complex was proposed in the 1990s. Thanks to the local community and the prestige that the Guadalupe Urban Racetrack has established, the idea gained traction, and the construction of Motorland Aragon Circuit began in 2006. Supervised under the keen eye of Hermann Tilke, its designer, the Motorland Aragon Circuit finished construction in 2009, and in 2010, it hosted its first MotoGP race.
