For the 2025 Season of MotoGP, the Thailand Motorcycle Grand Prix will serve as the opener and will be held at the prestigious Chang International Circuit in Buriram on February 28th. The Thailand Motorcycle Grand Prix, which made its debut in 2018, is a fairly new addition to the MotoGP calendar. Its debut race, which was hosted at Chang International Circuit was won by Marc Marques of Honda. Marc Marques again won the Grand Prix in 2019, however, the 2020, and 2021 events were cancelled due to COVID-19. The Grand Prix finally returned to the MotoGP calendar in 2022 and was won by Miguel Oliveira of KTM. In the following year 2023, the circuit was conquered by Jorge Martin of Ducati who claimed victory over the Thailand Motorcycle Grand Prix.

The Chang International Circuit, also regarded as the Buriram International Circuit is a prominent motorsport track that can be found nestled in Buriram, Thailand. The circuit, designed by the renowned circuit designer Herman Tilke, had its inauguration in the year 2014 and held the first Thailand Motorcycle Grand Prix in 2018. The Chang International Circuit is lauded for its challenging corners and fast straights and is well-favored among spectators and drivers. Being the only circuit in Thailand to meet both FIM Grand A and FIA Grand 1 standards, the racetrack has been a host for several major motor racing events including MotoGP and Formula One.

History of the Chang International Circuit

A Thai politician and businessman, Newin Chidchob wanted to transform Buriram into a sports hub and hence proposed a concept for a state-of-the-art circuit. Hermann Tilke, the renowned German circuit designer proposed a design for the Chang International Circuit, and construction on it began in 2013. It took approximately one year for the circuit to complete and the 1,200-acre racetrack was officially inaugurated in 2014. At its debut event, the circuit hosted the Japanese Super GT race, which helped attract international attention to the circuit. Finally, in 2018, the Chang International Circuit hosted its first Thailand Motorcycle Grand Prix, and since then has become a permanent host for the race.

The Chang International Circuit is an interesting one that features a fascinating mix of technical corners, and fast straights. Its enthralling layout poses an exciting challenge to the drivers, testing their skills and tenacity. Stretching to a length of 4.554 kilometers, the track features 12 turns and minimal elevation changes. The surface of the circuit is well maintained and smooth which ensures good grip for the vehicles.
