History of the Circuit of the Americas

In 2010, Tavo Hellmund, a promoter, and Kevin Schwantz, the 1993 Motorcycle World Champion, conceived the idea of a premium circuit. With the assistance of the famous circuit designer and architect Hermann Tilke, the two came up with the layout of the Circuit of the Americas and gave construction the green light on December 31st, 2010. On October 21, 2012, the circuit officially opened and on November 12th, 2012, it held its first race, the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. In April 2013, MotoGP finally came to the Circuit of the Americas and has become a permanent fixture since then.
