The Singaporean Grand Prix holds a special place in the Formula One calendar as it was the first-ever Formula One night race. The first Singaporean Grand Prix was held in 2008 at the Marina Bay Circuit and quickly after its inauguration, the event became a favorite among drivers and spectators alike due to its unique setting and challenging circuit.

The Marina Bay Circuit is a renowned and well-loved circuit, nestled in the heart of Singapore. The racetrack runs around the Marina Bay area and encompasses areas of Kallang and Downtown Core. Known for its challenging layout, Marina Bay Circuit was the racetrack that hosted the first Singaporean Grand Prix under the starry sky, making history as the venue for hosting the first F1 night race.
History of Marina Bay Circuit
In the mid-2000s, the idea of hosting a night race in Singapore was put forth. After much deliberation, the idea passed, and the Marina Bay Circuit was officially confirmed in 2007. The initial design for the circuit was crafted by Hermann Tilke and refined by an American engineering, and construction company, KBR Inc. the circuit took approximately one year to build and had its inaugural race in 2008.

Stretching to a length of 5.063 km, the circuit is located in the heart of Singapore and has a challenging and unique design. Surrounded by a picturesque landscape with views of the Esplanade, the Marina Bay /sands, and the Singapore Flyer, the circuit is as endearing as it is enthralling. The circuit sits on a flat land and consists of 19 turns among which Turn 18 is the most iconic one as it leads the drivers to pass underneath a grandstand.
