History of Autódromo José Carlos Pace

The Autódromo José Carlos Pace is an enthralling circuit with a rich history. Construction of the circuit began in 1938, and on May 12th, 1940, the circuit officially opened. Designed by a team led by Louis Romeo Sanson, the circuit features an exhilarating layout that was inspired by several renowned circuits including, Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the USA, and Brooklands in the UK. Initially, the circuit was regarded as the Autódromo de Interlagos, however, after the death of Brazilian Formula One driver, Jose Carlos Pace, who passed away tragically in a plane crash in 1977, the circuit was renamed Autódromo José Carlos Pace in 1985. Over the years, the circuit went through several modifications and renovations among which the renovation of 1990 was a significant one that resulted in the circuit getting shortened to 4.309 kilometers.
